The Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA) has done a good job attracting physicians to become certified (CME) to administer DOT medical exams to the professional driving community. Over 70K are listed on the FMCSA website. But who is really treating professional drivers?
We have spent the past 25 years asking professional drivers the following questions, “Who is your CME? Are they your primary doctor? Do they offer any specialty?” The resounding answers are “I don’t know or No they are not my primary physician and I don’t know what they do. They just stamp my medical examiners certificate and hopefully its good for 24 months”. Often we are finding it is for less time due to health conditions that must be monitored.
So our question is, are you seeing drivers? Fleets around the country and seeking CME’s that are experienced, follow up and can treat the driver in the event of a chronic condition. Healthy Transportation Foundation (HTF) would like to invite you to get a FREE listing in our CME directory. We will let fleets who employ drivers in your area know you are an experienced CME and are up to date with FMCSA regulations when it comes to driver safety.
